Sadako is a young woman who suffered cruelty and abuse at the hands of her father, a medium who used her as the subject of his experiments. These experiments triggered psychic powers in her, including the ability to project horrific images into people's minds. Unfortunately, these powers also caused her untimely death.
In the film and animated series, Sadako is portrayed as a vengeful ghost who haunts a videotape. Anyone who watches the tape receives a phone call announcing her death in seven days' time. The only way to avoid this curse is to make a copy of the tape and show it to someone else.
Sadako is often depicted with long black hair covering her face and wearing a dirty white dress. She usually appears in frightening scenes, slowly emerging from a well or coming out of the television to haunt her victims.
